The Original Bacon Cheeseburger

A&W

When we first started working with A&W® Restaurants, we’ll admit that we were impressed (read: amazed) to discover that the Bacon Cheeseburger was invented by the 95-year-old chain’s very own Dale Mulder in 1963. That’s one hell of a contribution to society. Just think about all of the Bacon Cheeseburgers you’ve enjoyed in your life. You have Dale and the A&W team to thank for that.

So, as you might imagine, we jumped at the opportunity to promote this historic menu item for their summer sales event. The creative revolved around the idea that A&W “should be famous” for inventing the Bacon Cheeseburger, because frankly, they should. So we looked to glorify this wonderful A&W innovation through POP, a TV spot, and an “Oral History of the Bacon Cheesebuger” video featuring (admittedly out-of-context) footage of the man, the myth, the legend, Dale Mulder.

The work was featured as an Editor's Pick on Ad Age's Creativity Online.
